About The Award

The Award (also known as the Duke of Edinburgh Award) inspires participants to enhance their community in meaningful ways. The lessons students learn from developing transferable skills, increasing their fitness levels, cultivating a sense of adventure and volunteering will benefit them for the rest of their lives. The Award operates internationally in more than 130 countries and territories, helping to inspire millions of young people to take control and make their own choices. The Award champions young people from all backgrounds to become their best selves and teaches them lasting lessons that prove invaluable throughout their lifetime.

The Award at Munro

Grade 9 and 10 students are fully supported in selecting and completing Bronze level activities, including:

  1. Voluntary Service – 13 hours over at least 13 weeks (1 hour per week minimum).
  2. Physical Recreation – 13 hours over at least 13 weeks (1 hour per week minimum).
  3. Skills – 13 hours over at least 13 weeks (1 hour per week minimum).
  4. Adventurous Journey – A 2-day, 1-night expedition with a minimum of 6 hours of purposeful effort per day.
Additionally, one of the first three sections (Service, Recreation, or Skills) must be extended for an extra 13 hours, bringing the total commitment to at least 26 hours in that section.

Students may subsequently advance independently to completion of Silver and Gold levels.
