Description

Munro Academy is a growing independent non-profit day school offering positively life-changing Christian education for Pre-Primary to Grade 12 Students.

Summary
The Elementary Teacher creatively and compassionately teaches Bible, Math, Language Arts, Science, History/Geography and provides loving homeroom teacher leadership for a class. This position involves daily direct contact teaching from 9 AM to 3 PM, daily staff meeting, and additional classroom preparation. In addition, students participate in daily French class and bi-weekly/weekly gym and fine arts courses; other teachers may facilitate some of these content areas. As part of a vibrant teaching team, the Elementary Teacher is responsible to the Principal and is hired by the Principal and Board.

Responsibilities
  • Preparing and teaching daily classes in:
    • Bible
    • Language Arts
    • Math
    • Science
    • History/Geography
  • Ongoing communication with parents, including contact before/after school, e-mails, sending home notes, and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Participation in school community life, potential leadership in extracurricular clubs, and other potential volunteer opportunities.
  • Regular assessment and continuing education.

  • Bachelor’s degree (ideal - B.Ed and/or pertinent theological education).
  • Active involvement in local church/parish.
  • Ability to contribute to unity in Christ’s body in teaching as a member of staff representing the breadth and wealth of Cape Breton’s denominations.
  • Commitment to Munro Academy’s community vision as outlined in the Student/Parent Handbook.
  • Successful completion of required criminal/abuse registry checks.
  • Demonstrates positive classroom management abilities for this age group.

  • Salary is determined by an education/experience salary grid starting at $35,430/year (paid biweekly).
  • Health/Life, etc. benefits package available (50/50 copay)
  • $1,000/year for post-bachelor’s degree continuing education (approved by the principal)
  • Bursary for up to 50% of tuition of students enrolled at Munro Academy.
  • Usage of school-owned laptop computer
